What we Do

At Garvey Adam, we help clients develop intellectual property strategies and programs, identify and perfect intellectual property rights and assert or defend these rights in court.

  • Trademarks

    We provide domestic and international trademark counseling, registration, renewal and risk analysis. We routinely prosecute and defend oppositions, cancellations and appeals before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, as well as enforce and defend our client’s trademark rights worldwide. Additionally, we manage Internet domain name and Web site issues, provide counseling on unfair competition, false advertising and trade disparagement and negotiate contracts relating to trademark licensing, merchandising, advertising, entertainment, publishing and rights of privacy and publicity.

  • Patents

    At Garvey Adam, we manage patent portfolios in a range of industries, including computer science, electronics, telecommunications and consumer products. Our patent services include patent portfolio development and management, domestic and international patent preparation and prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as well as performing right-to-use analysis, counseling relating to design-arounds and preparing legal opinions concerning patent invalidity and noninfringement.

    Protecting and enforcing copyrights are a cornerstone of our services. We regularly assist clients to secure global copyright privileges and ownership of copyright assets, including assignments from third-parties and independent contractors, dealing with employee issues, authorship and joint authorship matters, idea submission and work for hire issues. We also provide strategic advice regarding licensing copyrighted works, entertainment properties and software. We also counsel clients on enforcing copyrights and defending copyright claims in federal court litigation and appeals throughout the country.

    We treat intellectual property litigation as a business problem as well as a legal issue. At Garvey Adam, we understand our clients’ businesses and priorities so we can serve their long-term goals and short-term needs. We have litigated claims of patent infringement, counterfeiting, trademark infringement, trade dress infringement, false advertising, unfair competition, domain name disputes and other related state law claims. We have successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in U.S. district courts, before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and Federal Circuit.
